Costume






Nick's Costume which he had to get him to wear at each filming session for continuity.

Potential Risks/Hazards: Getting lost, permission from grumpy farmer, on top of the barn roof.

Actions needed to minimise risk: Kris' dad luckily works locally and got permission. He also cleared the roof for us to shoot on.

Potential Risks/Hazards: On top of conservatory roof.

Actions needed to minimise risk: Again Kris' dad tested the roof before hand and made sure it was suitable.


Date: 10-10-09
Location: London
Potential Risks/Hazards: Busy areas, permission needed to use tripod, train always a risk, timings of road crossings and of course roadwork’s.
Levels of Risk (L/M/H): M
Actions needed to minimise risk: We stuck together well, all had mobiles and calling credit, used our time well, only filmed in non-restricted areas (bending rules at times for the video purposes), and finally acted in a responsible manner away from home.

Potential Risks/Hazards: Out late, slippery roads whilst driving and near a river.

Actions needed to minimise risk: We could both swim, both had mobiles and drove carefully at all times.

Potential Risks/Hazards: Same as above also adding Buckingham Palace which acquires a lot of restrictions.

Actions needed to minimise risk: Same as above apart from we in advance asked for permission and got some sort of leeway in terms of shooting possibilities and areas to shoot within.

First London filming session

Location's: London Eye, Big Ben, Houses of Parliament which were all accessible from the same underground station.

Second London filming session

Location = Buckingham Palace
Underground needed = Piccadilly


Location = Nelson's column
Underground needed = Bond Street


Location = Houses of Parliament & London Eye
Underground needed = Westminster

I unfortunately could not attend this filming session, but many thanks to Nick & Kris who went for the group.

We also put aside alot of filming time to the performance shots which in the end we didn't use because of various reasons I explain in the previous post.

Initial Ideas

We initially were going to bounce in between shots of Sam's journey from the rural village to London and performance shots which would of been performed by a band we portrayed as Iglu & Hartly. We decided against using the performance shots because they didn't look very good and we didn't want to jeopardise what overall was a good video with performance shots which would of bought the overall opinion of the video down. Instead we used a variety of shots from London and did some more shooting in Eton Wick to make the departure from the rural village longer and added some more to the London section of the final product.

Album Cover Research

Our group decided to do an album cover as one of our ancillary tasks, we decided that this would be the best one from a range of options because it would of been able to bring out the creativity and reep the most awards. We had to design the front of the album cover, the back cover, inside left and inside right. Straight away we decided that the front cover should have our main character Sam (played by Nick) along with the album name '& Then Boom' and the band name 'Iglu & Hartly'.

The second ancillary task we chose was the advertising poster which had to promote the album and artist which was relatively simple, we put in some previous ideas and a screenshot from the video which the audience can relate to. We stuck with the idea of keeping the same theme throughout the album cover and advertising poster which showed continuity which we liked the idea of. The first three sides of the album cover we kept a purple coloured theme which we kept all the way through. The poster colours are bright and eye catching and are most importantly block colours as well which helped with the continuity of our advertisement campaign, with one of our best shots acting as a fade-in towards the lower half of the poster.

The front of the album cover has Sam (played by Nick) clearly in the centre of the frame, to centre him is to further connote his role and importance.





Here are three album covers from very different genres, but all are very well known albums and the artists are very popular. Bob Marley's album name signifies his status in the music industry and Michael Jackson 'HIStory' album is a very clever play on words and his album cover is very iconic because it shows a statue of him which shows his status in the music industry also as being 'set in stone'.

Doing a song by Iglu & Hartly was a good choice because the band aren't very well known and we have more room to work with, I'm hoping we have portrayed the band as very outgoing and simple but artistic.

Ancillary Tasks - Album Cover



The front cover of the album we used the same picture as on the advertising poster, we also used a solid block colour which is unusual for a front cover but we thought it would stand-out better. The album name is done in colours which are bright but didn't clash with the colour of the front cover.
We used the same kind of colour scheme in the back cover but instead of being purple we used more of a pink shade which makes the lights stand out more throughout the picture. We thought the image of Sam standing in the foreground and a major London landmark in the background would be a powerful image to the consumer. The writing is in white so that it doesn't clash with the colours in the picture.

The inside left cover we used the powerful image of The Houses of Parliament and Big Ben next to each other and we have promoted the band's name by putting the name in big writing in the very centre of the picture and making it a bright colour which would contrast with the background. This is a screenshot from the music video which gives you a taste of what type of shots are in the music video as well.



Finally the last screen shot taken for the slightly less significant inside right. This is where the CD will sit and therefore no real need was there to create a masterpiece. A nice shot of Sam leaning against the tree and a bright street lamp does the trick here and the abstract effect works well.

Ancillary Tasks - Advertising Poster



Here is the first ancillary task - the advertising poster. We have gone with a dominant background colour being the purple which is faded over a picture which one of the group has taken of the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben side by side. In the foreground is a picture of Sam (Nick) which we used the software to edit, we changed the colour to black and white, then we faded it and made the picture look a bit rougher. Then in the middle we used the stand-out words in the song - "You've nothing to fear in this city" and we highlighted the importance of these words by putting them on the advertisement cover. We also put the album name in the bottom left hand corner using the same font and colour scheme as we did for the phrase. We put the artist name in a bigger font at the top to make it stand out to the reader more.

A few days later we went to London and everything went to plan and we got some very good material, here are a few location shots from the day out!

Due to bad weather we had to postpone our trip to London, the filming commenced a few days after.

Storyboards




Here are the storyboards for our film. The first section is the rural part of the video where Sam (played by Nick) lives. The second section is the journey up to London by car and then by train. Then the third and final section is the part in London and where Sam meets up with the girl and the events leading to it.

Why have you chosen to promote this band:
Mainly because they are low key and not well known to the general public. Personally we believe that Iglu and Hartly should be more credited for their work and especially for the song we have chosen. We hope that by choosing to do this song we will boost its notoriety for the future.

Why have you chosen to make a promo video for this song:
The song itself is very uplifting and a feel good song, which will be enjoyed by a very wide ranged target audience. We can all relate to this song in the sense that we all live close to London and we know the feeling so we can really understand their message, which is recognised through the lyrics.

What are your ideas for your video? Think about setting(s), characters, narrative, costumes, props etc. Justify in relation to artist and song:
A boy from a very rural area recieves a letter from a girl who lives in the city and invites him to come and meet her there. He goes there and has different experiences on his journey before eventually meeting her.
